Millions uniting worldwide to call for a waste-free world

One day. One planet. One goal.

On 15 September, volunteers and partners worldwide came together to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets.

A powerful ‘green wave’ of cleanups started in Fiji and ended 36 hours later in Hawaii, with millions of people working towards one goal: a clean and healthy planet. 144 countries, which is over two-thirds of the countries in the world, participated.

We would like to congratulate to our sister project Ecolocaliza for running World Cleanup Day in La Linea de la Concepcion. We are simply amazed and humbled by our fellow researcher, colleague and friend Estefania Martin Moreno by organising this event and inspiring 250 people, who joined the biggest cleanup in whole Spain, collecting 7,5 tonnes of rubbish and cigarette butts.

You are all heroes and together we made the world a cleaner place this weekend. Thank you! We did it!
